At Terpy Flavors Gallery Flavour comes first. Just like with wine or coffee, cannabis can be «tasted»: observe, smell and savour it to distinguish the subtle nuances. We’ll show you how.
1. Observe
Take a look at the appearance of the flower: its colour, the shape of the buds and the amount of trichomes (that shiny coating that looks like frost). A well-cured flower is neither damp nor so dry that it crumbles.
2. Smell
Gently break open a bud and smell it. There they are, the terpenes, the plant’s aromatic compounds. Some of the most common are:
- Limonene: citrus, such as lemon or orange.
- Myrcene: earthy, herbal, with notes of ripe fruit.
- Pineno: to pine trees and forests.
- Caryophyllene: spicy, peppery.
- Linalool: floral, reminiscent of lavender.
3. Try
- Tobacco-free: Tobacco masks the flavour. If you can, use a clean pipe or a vapouriser set to a low temperature.
- The first drag It’s the one with the most flavour. Pay attention to how it goes down and the aftertaste.
- Drink some water between different varieties to cleanse the palate.
4. Compare
The best way to train your palate is to compare two or three different varieties in the same session, in small quantities. Make a note of what you notice: aroma, flavour, smoothness and how you feel.
Mistakes that ruin a wine tasting
- Grind the herb until it becomes a powder.
- Use flavoured paper or petrol lighters.
- Tasting with a saturated palate (after a heavy meal, coffee or a cigarette).
- Drinking too much: the aim of a wine tasting is to appreciate the wine, not to get drunk.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do terpenes affect the effect?
It is thought that they may influence the experience, but research in this area is still limited. What is clear, however, is that they affect the aroma and flavour.
